Last Updated:
March 18, 2024

Welcome to the second issue of Whale Mail. This issue is a little different than Tuesday’s long form. This is an aggregation of all the awesomeness in DTC, Ecommerce, Marketing, Analytics & Strategy.

Without further ado, lets jump in! We have a jam packed issue for you all today. First, a little housekeeping. Andrew Foxwell, Co-Founder of Foxwell Digital, will be joining the Triple Whale Team to talk about, “What’s working now on Facebook & Instagram Ads?”

All the deets are below.

In our reading recommendation section, we have a sensational long form read about Consumer Social and some interesting insights and predictions.

Next up, we have a fantastic pod talking about whats to come in the social media landscape and the macro economic effects it may have on ecommerce and DTC, in specific.

Then we jump into how time blocking can increase productivity and focus. We also have a sweet piece of software to go along with it. Don’t worry if you don’t know what time blocking is, we explain.

Lastly, we close with our tip of the week, where we show you how to leverage Klaviyo’s CLV super powers to start making you or your clients more money.

Hope you all have a whale of a day!

🚀 New Product Updates

We just dropped some new updates. Click the tweet below and watch Aj take you through all the new epicness we just launched!

🎙️Live Q&A Friday with Andrew Foxwell x TW

In this live fireside chat, Andrew and the Triple Team will delve into what has been working and not working since the iOSpocalypse.

If you all want a primer on what’s working, Andrew and team composed a wonderful blog article linked to below.

👩🏻‍💻 What we are reading?

“Hype creates the aura that something is bigger, more important, and more inevitable than it actually is. In this way, it acts like a subsidy on engagement in a consumer social network.”

🎧 What we are listening to?

Taylor has been one of my favorite follows on Twitter and I really enjoy a lot of his takes. On top of that, I love how rooted he is in the economics of the business. I think that in the next 2 years most media buyers will transform into mini-CMOs.

Great listen/watch, Jason kills it and asks fantastic questions. Well worth the price of admission.

🤯 Fact of the Week

The scale of Amazon Ads is truly something to marvel at. Nothing really more to say, absolute behemoth of a business.

🧰 Tool of the Week

I have always struggled with finding the perfect workflow or framework. The closest thing I have found is time blocking.

Time blocking is the practice of planning out every moment of your day in advance and dedicating specific time “blocks” for certain tasks and responsibilities.

Recently, I found an incredible piece of affordable software that is made exactly for time blockers called Akiflow.

One of my favorite parts of Akiflow is that you can link up other channels like Slack, Gmail, Zapier and others.

This allows you to quickly create tasks by just starring something in Gmail or bookmark something in Slack, it automagically makes a task for you in your Akiflow inbox.

It’s super slick and highly recommend it to anyone looking to boost productivity and be more focused with their time.

P.S. New to time blocking? Check out the article we linked to below by RescueTime. It’s a great beginners guide to get you started!

🦸🏼‍♀️ Tip of the Week

The Predictive Analytics Section of a Klaviyo Profile
The Predictive Analytics Section of a Klaviyo Profile

The Predictive Analytics Section of a Klaviyo Profile

Klaviyo has straight up super powers. I am going to show you how to leverage those super powers. First things first, you need a few things before predictive analytics kick in:

  • At least 500 customers have placed an order.
  • You have an ecommerce integration (e.g., Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento) or use our API to send placed orders.
  • You have at least 180 days of order history and have orders within the last 30 days.
  • You have at least some customers who have placed 3 or more orders.

Ok with that out of the way, there are a few things you can see now.

**Sidenote: CLV is customer lifetime value, same as LTV.

  • Historic CLV
  • Predicted CLV
  • Total CLV
  • Churn Risk Prediction
  • Avg. Time Between Orders
  • Predicted Gender

Now why is this so cool, well because you can segment your customers in new ways. For example, you can create a segment with:

Historic CLV = $1000

Predictive CLV (what they will spend that year) >= $200

So what this segment will do, is add anyone who has spent over $1000 over their lifetime and Klaviyo predicts they will spend $200 or more this year. Super awesome for crafting specific offers especially if you have a big spectrum of price points

We’ll go through some more examples next week, with a screenshare, but definitely check it out, uber cool feature.
